The big fight between UFC heavyweight champion Jon Jones (USA) and challenger Stipe Miocic (CH) has been canceled due to Jones’ injury.
“Jones will not be able to compete in his heavyweight title fight against Miocic at UFC 295 on Nov. 12,” UFC President Dana White announced on social media today (Nov. 25).
“Jones tore the pectoralis major ligament that wraps around his ribs during training last night (Nov. 23),” White said, adding that he will require surgery and is expected to be out approximately eight months.
With Jones unable to compete, challenger Miocic was also pulled from the event. Instead, the light heavyweight championship bout, which was originally scheduled as the co-main event, will be the new main event.
Former light heavyweight Jiri Prohacska (CZE) and former middleweight champion Alex Pereira (BRA) will face off for the vacant championship. Prohacska is currently ranked No. 1 in the light heavyweight division, while Pereira is No. 2.
There will also be a decision to crown an interim heavyweight champion, as Jones will not be able to defend his title for some time. Sergey Pavlovich (Russia), ranked No. 3 in the heavyweight division, will face Tom Aspinall (Great Britain), ranked No. 4. 토스카지노
