Oh Se-geun (Seoul SK) is making an impact.
SK defeated Goyang Sono 88-80 in the second game of Group C of the 2023 MG Saemaul Money KBL Cup at Wolmyeong Gymnasium in Gunsan on Wednesday.
The win completed a two-game winning streak for SK, which defeated Seoul Samsung and Sono to advance to the quarterfinals.
Jamil Warney led the way in the win. He finished with 21 points, 10 rebounds, four assists, and four steals. Not to be outdone was Oh Se-geun. He played 16:39 minutes, finishing with 11 points, 9 rebounds, 2 assists, and 5-of-6 FGs. It was a short amount of time, but the difference between his presence and absence was clear. He had a whopping +18 scoring margin on the court.
His passing was accurate, catching the ball in the high post and looking out for his teammates, and he had a good feel for the mid-range shot from inside and out. On defense, they rotated and filled the gaps well.
After the game, head coach Jeon Hee-chul said, “We played switch defense today. We’ve been practicing the defense with Oh for a day or two, and he knew the timing and the way to go. Even against the short players, they didn’t break through the steps. I think he has a lot of sense,” he praised.
Instead of celebrating his victory, Oh showed his determination to improve. He said, “There was a little bit of defense that didn’t work out, and I remember that a lot. I’m not worried because I’m in the process of adjusting, but I think I need to keep adjusting.”
After joining Anyang KGC in the 2011-2012 season, Oh left Chung Den to join SK. Finding chemistry with a new system and new teammates has been his biggest challenge this season 메이저놀이터.
“After playing the first game of the cup, I told the coach that I wanted to play more. Today I got more playing time and I think I felt more comfortable because we played a lot of defensive moves,” he said.
“I’ve been talking to Warney a lot in practice and in games. “It’s still an adjustment,” he said, “because there are certain plays that he does that I’ve seen him do. There are certain plays that he does, so I have to adjust. I think I need to talk to him more to make sure I’m playing the kind of basketball I want to play. There are still some things I need to work on.”
Now, he has to get more used to the SK uniform. However, the opening game of the KBL is against his hometown team, Anyang. “I hope the first game will be a good feeling,” said Oh. On the one hand, the team name is changing from KGC to Jeonggwanjang, and the logo is not the one we are used to. I think it will be a different feeling.”
