Gwangju FC midfielder Lee Sun-min, 29, earns his first cap.
The Korea Football Association announced its 25-man roster for September’s friendly A matches in Europe in a press release on Monday. Gwangju’s vice-captain and breadwinner Lee Soon-min was proudly named to the roster. This is the first national team selection in his life.
“I’m happy to be able to enjoy my first Taeguk-mark honor with the Gwangju team,” he said, “It still doesn’t feel real. I will do my best to shine for the team and the country with the pride of Gwangju.”
Lee Soon-min has a secondary character. He holds a microphone and performs music under the rap name ‘wero’. He was invited to perform as a rapper at the 2022 K League 1 Awards. “I’m probably the best rapper among soccer players,” Lee laughed.
Now he has to compete with the best. Jürgen Klinsmann, head coach of the South Korean national soccer team, named 11 midfielders. Lee was selected alongside Son Heung-min (Tottenham), Hwang In-beom (Olympiacos), Hwang Hee-chan (Wolverhampton), Moon Sun-min, Ahn Hyun-beom (Jeonbuk Hyundai), Park Yong-woo (Al Ain), Yang Hyun-joon (Celtic), Lee Dong-kyung (Ulsan Hyundai), Lee Jae-sung (Mainz), and Hong Hyun-seok (KAA Hent).
Among them, Lee is expected to compete with Park Yong-woo, Lee Dong-kyung, and Hwang In-beom for the central midfield spot. He is determined to showcase his build-up, cutting, and game-coordination skills, as well as his main weapon, a powerful mid-range shot.
In late July, he represented the national team in the Team K League-Atletico Madrid friendly at the Seoul World Cup Stadium. With the score tied at 2-2, Lee scored the game-winning goal from mid-range in late stoppage time. Team K-League went on to defeat Atletico Madrid 3-2. In the post-match interview, Lee Soon-min was asked to rap about the game, and he readily obliged.
The Korean national soccer team will travel to England next month on the 4th. On the 8th, they will play a friendly A match against Wales at Cardiff City Stadium in Wales, England, and on the 13th, they will play a friendly A match against Saudi Arabia at St. James’ Park in Newcastle. Rapper and soccer player Lee Soon-min awaits his A-match debut. 토토사이트
