On the 19th, Bayern held its 12th “Dream Match”. They traveled to the Caltern to play a team put together by their fans. The Caltern is part of the northern Italian region of Südtirol. Südtirol is the northernmost region of Italy, and because it was once part of Austria, it still speaks German and is known for its German place names. It’s about a three-and-a-half hour drive from Munich.

It was less than 24 hours after a 4-0 win over Werder Bremen in the Bundesliga opener, but Bayern players still traveled a long way for the scheduled fan service. The 6,400 seats at the local soccer field were sold out.

Bayern put out their best lineup. First-team regulars like Thomas Muller, Matthias Dürich, and Konrad Reimer, who came off the bench in Bremen, started. Kim Min-Jae, Jamal Musalla, and Harry Kane, who started in Bremen, came on in the second half. Bayern won 6-1.

The Bavarians erased preseason concerns about their form with a convincing opening day win, and then enjoyed two days of extraordinary fan service. After the trip to the Südtirol, it’s back to preparing for the next game. The first regular-season home game of the season awaits on Aug. 28 against Augsburg.
