Südtirol is the northernmost region of Italy, and because it was once part of Austria, it still speaks German and is known for its German place names. It’s about a three-and-a-half hour drive from Munich.
It was less than 24 hours after a 4-0 win over Werder Bremen in the Bundesliga opener, but Bayern players still traveled a long way for the scheduled fan service. The 6,400 seats at the local soccer field were sold out.
Bayern put out their best lineup. First-team regulars like Thomas Muller, Matthias Dürich, and Konrad Reimer, who came off the bench in Bremen, started. Kim Min-Jae, Jamal Musalla, and Harry Kane, who started in Bremen, came on in the second half. Bayern won 6-1.
The Bavarians erased preseason concerns about their form with a convincing opening day win, and then enjoyed two days of extraordinary fan service. After the trip to the Südtirol, it’s back to preparing for the next game. The first regular-season home game of the season awaits on Aug. 28 against Augsburg.
