DPL Kia lost to T1 3-1 in the first round of the 2023 LoL Champions Korea (LCK) Summer Season playoffs at the LCK Arena in Jongno-gu, Seoul on September 9. The loss confirmed their elimination from the playoffs and brought an early end to the Summer Season.
They lost back-to-back games in the battle for the Nasher Baron. Speaking at the post-match press conference, Choi said, “In the early and mid-game, we managed to create what we wanted. “The summer season ended today, but the 2023 season is not over yet. We need to improve our mid- to late-season (operations).”
Depletia’s lack of objective-hitting ability, which has plagued them all year, ultimately led to a premature end to the Summer Season. “It may seem strange to say this after a loss, but we have been giving a lot of feedback since the end of the second round of the regular season, with the first goals being to improve our mid and late game operations, game decisiveness, and objective hitting,” Choi said.

“When you’re in a critical situation, calls, communication, and promised plays are important, but the most important thing is who is more relaxed and connects smoothly with the play,” Choi said.
“I think we’ve lost a lot of games in big stages, against big teams, so I don’t think the players have the luxury of making good decisions,” he said, “and that’s something we’re trying to work on in practice. I believe we are getting better,” he added.
He also noted some improvements from before. “In the past, we lacked a lot of understanding of our opponents, our combinations, and the use of spells and vision when lining up before the objective hit,” Choi said. “Allowing our opponents to attack from the back, overlapping the positions of the two dealers, etc. led to defeat.”
“I think I’m on the edge of a cliff,” Choi said, “I’m going to prepare desperately, but I’m going to think positively so that I don’t feel any pressure. I will train hard and show a good performance.”
